Scotland Part 3: Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye: 9/5 – 9/6

Fairy Pools, Castles, and a Taste of Whisky No visit to Scotland would be complete without exploring the legendary Isle of Skye. We pulled into the parking lot of the iconic Eilean Donan Castle and randomly “Come on Eileen” started playing. That was a hilarious accident. We then visited the Sligachan Bridge, where it’s said beauty can be gained by dipping your face in the river for seven seconds. Ricci and I found a couple rocks to balance on, lowered to our knees, held our breath and pushed our faces into the freezing water. We managed to hold it for seven seconds…and what do you know…3 days later I had a huge pimple under my lip that lasted the rest of the trip. Not the outcome I was hoping for. Ha!

A dip in the cold, cold, COLD Fairy Pools followed, providing a refreshing experience. The hike to the fairy pools looks really long from the parking lot, but it only took about 20 minutes to reach the pools. There are several pools to get into if you’re willing to brave the cold.

The midges deterred us from hiking Old Man of Storr after 10 minutes into the hike, but we made up for it by exploring Trotternish, snapping photos at Lealt Falls and Kilt Rock. We searched for dino prints at An Corran Beach (go at low tide) and took in the otherworldly landscape of the Fairy Glen. That evening, we savored hand pies and mac n’ cheese from a local food truck—a perfect end to the day.

Talisker tasting We made a quick stop at Talisker so the guys could do a whiskey tasting.

Skye is extremely popular and its highly recommended to make reservations if you want to eat out. Stupidly we did not make any and found ourselves in a bind, but luckily a wood fired pizza truck came to our rescue. The owner shared his love

The weather was 70 degrees and sunny for our two days on Skye. Locals let us know we were lucky to experience their summer – cause that was it – just those 2 days!
